1.) Pain can be caused by a physical problem like a pinched nerve, bulging disc, a muscle problem etc. It can also be caused by a chemical problem like a nutritional or vitamin deficiency which results in inflammation and irritation to the nerve.
Be sure the doctor you choose is qualified to differentiate between physical and nutritional causes of pain. Even injuries that appear to have a known cause like an accident, could have occurred or been worsened by an underlying nutritional deficiency. If certain nutrients were present in your body at the time of the injury, the damage may not have occurred or may have been less severe. Unfortunately, most chiropractors and other types of doctors are not trained to detect this type of problem resulting in a lot of unnecessary suffering for the patient.
2.) If the doctor DOES address both physical and nutritional problems, the next question is “what approach do they take to correct them?”
For physical causes to pain: It is important to have a doctor who actually gives chiropractic treatments (adjustments) that remove pinched nerves and does not just attach you to a machine or throw you on a massage bed. Be aware: not all chiropractors actually give chiropractic adjustments that remove pinched nerves.
If a doctor does give chiropractic treatments, what techniques do they use? Look for an office that offers both traditional hands on and lower force methods (activator/“the clicker”). Very often both treatment methods are necessary to quickly and effectively treat a problem. If the doctor offers only one method or just hooks you up to fancy machines, their treatment may be less effective. Be sure they offer hands on muscle massage and more importantly, muscle rebalancing. Many practitioners say they do muscle work but only rub the muscle for a short time, never truly restoring function to the muscle.
For nutritional causes to pain: Does the doctor closely monitor your diet? Do they use a combination of methods to analyze what your body is lacking and give you the actual foods, either through your diet or through food form supplementation, instead of in isolate form? An isolate is a single part of a vitamin complex.
For example, the chemical name for water is H2O. This means that there are 2 hydrogen molecules for every single oxygen molecule. In its whole form, H2O (water) can be used to put out fires. When you separate water into its isolated parts the result is oxygen and hydrogen . Separately these individual components will fuel a fire instead of putting it out. As you can see, they become very different, just like vitamins when they are separated from their original complex. For example, Vitamin C has numerous parts (ascorbic acid is only the outer layer of the complex). Ascorbic acid is the antioxidant of the whole vitamin C complex, which means it protects the vitamin C from breaking down. Years ago scientists assumed that ascorbic acid must also be the part of the complex that protects human cells from breaking down as well. Modern science proves this to be incorrect. Humans require the entire vitamin C complex for protection, not just ascorbic acid. Taking ascorbic acid alone can actually make your body deficient in true vitamin C weakening blood vessels and causing other potential damage. All vitamins must be taken in the form of food because that’s how God designed our bodies to function, on food, not chemicals.
3.) Does the practitioner just sell you vitamins or do they observe what you are eating to see if a simple change in diet will help? Unfortunately, due to cost saving farming techniques being utilized to produce our food, it is extremely difficult to get all of the nutrients you need through your diet alone. However, it is extremely important to address the diet. This will help you to avoid using supplements as “bandaid therapy” which only covers up a problem and does not address the cause. This “bandaid approach” can get expensive and is not the best approach.
When Choosing a Doctor, Please Ask Yourself the following Questions:
1.) Do you want a doctor that offers more than just temporary relief of your pain or problem?
2.) Do you want a doctor who has the ability to determine whether your problem is a physical or nutritional problem?
3.) Is it possible your eating habits, in the past or present, could be contributing in a bad way to how you are currently feeling?
If you have answered yes to either of these questions, our office would be a great next step.
